v Velvet Jewels Maine Coons is in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin which is 35 miles north of Madison Wisconsin, 100 miles from the Clock Towers in Rockford, Illinois and 50 miles northwest of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
What We Do:
v We have been showing and breeding Maine Coons since 1992. We feel personality and health are very important along with large size and type. We actively show our cats in the
Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) and The International Cat Association (TICA).
v I am a long-time breeder member of Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association (MCBFA).
v We are certified as a CFA Cattery of Excellence. Our Cattery is mid-size, allowing the females the run of the house and the boys have their own room. Our boys do not spray and we do not use cages. Kittens are handled from birth and develop in our Nursery.
v We specialize in brown, red, silver, blue and patched tabbies with and without white, mostly the classic tabby pattern, occasionally the mackerel tabby pattern.
v Our breeding cats are tested annually for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). We are pleased that all of our cats in our breeding program are clear and show no evidence of HCM at this time. Screening our Maine Coons for HCM is performed by Dr. Hattie Bortnowski, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Internal Medicine). We will continue testing each of our cats yearly to ensure that at the time of testing our breeding cats are free of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
v Please note: Screening for HCM is currently the recommended method to aid in reducing the incidence of this genetic condition in our cats. Breeders can not guarantee that their cats will not have this condition. However, Velvet Jewels can guarantee that we are dedicated to screening our breeding cats in a continued effort to produce healthy and sound Maine Coon cats to the best of our ability.
v Kittens may go to their new homes at 12 weeks of age after being vet checked and vaccinated. Our contract states that all pet kittens must be spayed or neutered.
v On average the Males grow up to be 12-16 pounds, and the Females 8-12 pounds. Sometimes ours get even larger, with many being produced over the average size. Here are some of the lovely cats we have sold as pets.
